Less traffic and there are basically no windy bits. It is effectively a regional capital with commerce and shopping to match. Give it a quick Google. Last I heard it shut down in 2015, but the quick search I just did shows the numbers are still online. Unfortunately the people in Nowra are a bunch of massive derros. If I was coming down from Canberra I would just use the Hume Highway, express way all the way, get of at Sallys corner road at the McDonalds, head to Exeter then go down thru Kangaroo Valley, Whats not to love, high quality tarred roads all the way!! A lot of the suggestions so far have been pretty far away. The area is surrounded by some of the most expensive and nicest natural tourist destinations (Jervis Bay, Kiama, Berry, Bowral, Kangaroo Valley) + Wollongong is less than an hour away. The region around Nowra is beautiful farming country with a strong dairy industry and a number of State forests but is also increasingly a tree-change/sea change retirement and leisure area for Canberra and Sydney. Leaf in Nowra is epic for Thai/Japanese, Kohli's for Indian, Deli on Kinghorne great cafe (but lots of other good ones too), Flame pizza in North Nowra, Hyper Hyper best coffee you'll ever taste. Those prices are a little low for the Nowra area, but I couldn’t recommend a better place to live in terms of distance to Sydney and future potential.
